The Racine Zoo is currently displaying four playhouses constructed by local builders last Saturday. The child-size playhouses will be raffled off July 18.
The Junior League of Racine, the Racine Kenosha Builders Association and the Racine Zoo organized the project in conjunction with local builders. Playhouse construction took place at the zoo, 200 Goold St., from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m, said Megan Frazer, spokeswoman for the zoo.
"Each one is unique," she said. "They are different themed. One is a purple cottage; one has turrets like a castle. And they are all made out of real building materials with working windows and mailboxes."
The houses will remain on display until the raffle drawing on July 18 at Zoovies, summertime outdoor movie events held at the zoo. Raffle tickets cost $10 and can be purchased from the Junior League of Racine by calling 634-6575 or from the Racine Zoo Gift Shop.
Funds raised benefit the Racine Kenosha Builders Association Scholarship Fund and children's programs sponsored by the Junior League of Racine.
