RACINE - Two authors who grew up in Yorkville will visit Racine for a book signing this weekend.

Hilda and Emily Demuth, authors of "Plank Road Summer," a historical fiction book for teens that takes place in Racine County around the time of the Civil War, will sign books at the annual Racine Lutheran High Ladies' Guild Harvest Fair Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Lutheran High School, 251 Luedtke Ave. Hilda and Emily Demuth, who are sisters, graduated from Lutheran High School in 1978 and 1981, respectively.

"Plank Road Summer" came out in May and tells the story of two 13-year-old girls who experience a summer living along a plank road that brings strangers into their towns and homes, opening their eyes to the plight of runaway slaves. The book primarily takes place near the Racine and Rock River plank roads, which were the main routes for wagons transporting wheat from Wisconsin farms to harbors on Lake Michigan.

The sisters are working on a sequel to the book that will continue the story 19 years later with the next generation of the two families, said their mother Marge Demuth, of Yorkville, adding that Hilda, 49, now lives in Indiana while Emily, 46, lives in a Chicago suburb.
