Residents of the Union Grove Elementary School District are invited to attend a Safe Routes To School listening session, scheduled for 6 p.m. Dec. 6 in the commons area at the school, 1745 Milldrum St. Refreshments will be served.

The idea of the listening session is for the Safe Routes to School Committee to provide an overview of the progress being made on safe route planning and to listen to comments and concerns.

The district this year received a $20,000 grant from the Wisconsin Department of Transportation for planning purposes to help make walking and biking routes to school safer and more useful for district children. The overall goal of the plan, according to District Administrator Gary Damaschke, is to reduce vehicular traffic and to help the children in their efforts to be more healthy and active.

A number of issues will be addressed including education and infrastructure improvements, demarcations, sidewalks, signage and more.

For more information, call the district office at (262) 878-2131.
