The Wisconsin Association of School Boards today recognized Racine Unified School Board member Julie McKenna for her work on behalf of the district.

McKenna received WASB's Level 4 School Board Member recognition award Wednesday at the association's regional meeting in Elkhorn, the school district announced.

First elected to the School Board in 1998, McKenna has been reelected for three consecutive terms.

She currently serves as the School Board's WASB delegate. Throughout her active service on the Board, she served as clerk and served as chairwoman on various committees such as the Racine Unified Communication Committee.

This year, McKenna earned over 450 points for her work bringing her to the fourth level of recognition. In prior years, McKenna worked her way through levels one, two and three.

Beginning in 1988, WASB created the Board Recognition Program.

This initiative, awards points acknowledging board members from various communities for their commitment to leadership, skills development, attendance and involvement in various programs for WASB and the National School Boards Association.

Members are rated on a five-level system scale with points ranging from five to 30 in each category.
