WIND POINT - The Wind Point Lighthouse is getting a new, warranty-covered paint job.
Workers from Masonry Restoration Inc. have been blasting the lighthouse's tower with high-pressure water to rid it of loose, chipping paint, said Village President Bill Bensman.
The lighthouse, at 4725 Lighthouse Drive, will look a little splotchy - "little pocks here, little pocks there" - until sometime next month, Bensman said, as the contractors wait until the tower's surface dries and cures before they repaint it.
The lighthouse was painted in the fall of 2007, but leftover moisture from the previous water-blasting may have caused the paint to chip, Bensman said.
In early 2008 officials noticed that some of the paint was chipping and coming off of the tower. The contractors came to look at it late last summer, but decided not to repaint until this summer, so that there's adequate time for the moisture to dry before the winter.
