MOUNT PLEASANT

Carjacking report unfounded

Village police said that a report of a carjacking at 5:15 p.m. Wednesday at the Auto Zone store on Durand Avenue was in fact an assault case.

A man received an injury in the incident. An employee at the store described the victim as being "a bloody mess." But police said the man refused treatment from rescue crews.

Police said the incident is still under investigation.

CALEDONIA

Man accused of taking TV from family

Kelly S. Tristano, 41, 529 Hialeah Drive, Caledonia, is facing a charge of theft for allegedly stealing a television, valued at $1,500, from his parents' home.

As police were taking a report on the theft at 6:25 p.m. Sunday, the suspect called his father, who let police talk to him. Tristano allegedly denied taking the TV.

A short time later, police saw the suspect in the area of Hialeah and Erie Street. Police observed an injury to his mouth. Tristano allegedly said he had been mugged on Mount Pleasant Street in Racine.

Police also interviewed a man who was with the Tristano. He told police that Tristano allegedly said he had money for gas as a result of selling a television.

Kids witness woman's arrest

A 35-year-old Silver Lake woman was arrested on pending charges of retail theft, possession of cocaine, possession of drug paraphernalia an obstructing after she was caught allegedly stealing cosmetics just before 8:50 a.m. Tuesday at the Wal-Mart store, 3049 S. Oakes Road.

Police said that a 9-year-old daughter and her 10-year-old friend were with Stephanie C. Billion, 102 W. Park Ave., when she was confronted by store personnel.

MOUNT PLEASANT

OWI, hit-and-run suspect located

Police tracked down a drunk driving suspect Sunday night, after a report of a Chevy Suburban taking out mailboxes just before 7:30 p.m. on Green Bay Road near Byrd Avenue.

Village police located the suspect vehicle at the Mobil On The Run store at 6840 Washington Ave. and took Peter J. Westrich, 22, 3836 Osborne Blvd., Racine, into custody for suspicion of operating a vehicle while intoxicated.

Westrich is also facing charges in Racine.

TOWN OF BURLINGTON

Electronics taken in burglary

Town police on Tuesday afternoon took a report of a burglary at a residence in the 30000 block of Bushnell Road (Highway 142).

A resident reported finding a window open and a screen removed. Missing are a computer tower, a laptop computer and an Ipod. The estimated value of missing items is $3,969.

The resident believes the break-in took place some time between 6 p.m. Monday and noon Tuesday.

YORKVILLE

Gun taken from car at tavern

Racine County sheriff's deputies took a report Sunday of a handgun being stolen out of the trunk of a car, parked at a local tavern just south of Highway 20.

The owner told deputies that he was a Hunterz Bar, 904 S. Sylvania Ave., from 10 p.m. Saturday to 1:30 a.m. Sunday. Reports said during that time, someone went into to the trunk of his vehicle and took a 9mm black handgun and a magazine containing 13 live rounds.

The gun is worth an estimated $410.

RACINE

More copper thefts reported

Two southside residents reported having their copper downspouts stolen between Monday night and Tuesday morning, Racine police said.

According to reports, one 13-foot downspout was taken from a home in the 1800 block of College Avenue, and three 7- to 15-foot downspouts were taken from a house in the 1800 block of Wisconsin Avenue.

Police said the thefts occurred between 11 p.m. Monday and 6:15 a.m. Tuesday.

RACINE

Vehicle shooting investigated

A witness told police he saw two suspects fire a gun into the window of a van in the 2200 block of 17th Street Monday night.

Racine police said at 8:30 p.m. the witness saw the suspects walking westbound on 17th Street and the van driving behind them. Then, one of the suspects fired two shots at the van, causing one of the vehicle's windows to shatter.

Reports said the van sped off and the suspects fled east on 17th Street.

The van was described as a dark blue Chrysler minivan.

The suspects were described as two black men, between the ages of 26 and 28. The armed suspect was 160 pounds, approximately 5 feet 8 inches tall, and wearing a red hat, white T-shirt, black shorts and tennis shoes.

The second suspect was described as 160 pounds, 5 feet 9 inches tall, and wearing a black T-shirt and black shorts.

TOWN OF PARIS

Soybeans damaged by joyrider

An estimated $500 damage resulted from a vehicle, perhaps a 1996 Toyota Land Cruiser, driving through a soybean field just after 12:30 a.m. Monday in the 16400 block of Highway KR, just south of the Racine County and Town of Yorkville line.

The incident was witnessed by the farmer who owns the field.
