RACINE - A 45-year-old man received serious stabbing and slashing wounds during an fight late Friday night in the 1200 block of Center Street, city police said.
Bernard Burns of Racine was taken to Wheaton Franciscan All Saints hospital, 3801 Spring St., after the attack that was reported at 10:40 p.m. Police said Burns suffered a partially severed ear and several stab wounds to the forearm. He required 40 stitches and/or staples to close his wounds, police reports indicate. His condition was not known at press time.
A short time after the attack, which police said was the result of an argument in which the parties had allegedly been drinking, officers found the suspected attacker at a residence at 1226 Center St. Larry Whisenton, 53, 4810 Indian Hills Drive, Mount Pleasant, was taken into custody on a pending charge of causing injury by mayhem. Court records indicate that Whisenton recently listed 1226 Center St. as a home address.
Meanwhile, James L. Price, 44, of Racine, was taken to Wheaton Franciscan Thursday night after receiving a knife cut to the arm after an altercation with a woman between 7 p.m. and 7:20 p.m. in the 1100 block of Mound Avenue. Police arrested Sophia Knight, 38, 2300 Jacato Drive, Racine, on pending charges of substantial battery in connection to the incident. Price's condition was not available Saturday night.
