UNION GROVE o Five women are vying for the first-place position at this year's Fairest of the Fair competition.
This year's contestants o Krystle Field, 19; Katie Rice, 19; Nicole Krupkowski, 20; Jennifer Callewaert, 19; and Jessica Knutson, 20 o are in the running to become the official spokeswoman for the Racine County Fair. The queen will be crowned at the grandstand at 5 p.m. Wednesday.
i Field, daughter of Lee and Lisa Woelbing of Franksville, is a 2004 graduate of Union Grove High School. During high school Field participated in German Club for four years; Art Club for two years; was a Peer Leader for four years and was on the girl's soccer team for three years. She also participated in the Relay for Life for the American Cancer Society at the high school. Field was a member of the 4-H Club for 13 years; president and vice president of the Racine County Junior Leaders Association; Racine County 4-H Ambassador; Racine County Farm Bureau Outstanding Girl; American Cancer Walk; Wisconsin State Fair volunteer/staff; charter member of Southern Lakes Rabbit Club for seven years; member of the American Rabbit Breeders Association; member of American Dutch Breeders Association; annual governor's egg hunt volunteer for six years; Racine County 4-H Awards Recognition, National 4-H Congress Trip; Honor Court and chaired Holiday Ball at South Hills Country Club; chaired Twin Disc Picnic at the Racine County Fair grounds; call booth at Racine County Fair; exhibited at Racine County Fair for 13 years; is an active member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church; Senior Choir; Sunday School assistant and teen advisor. Field has shown rabbits for 12 years; sheep for four years; swine for three years; and dogs for three years. She also participated the photography project, foods and nutrition, arts and crafts, drawing and painting and woodworking. She has been a junior leader in many of these projects and was able to teach the younger members everything about that particular project and help get them ready for the fair. Field worked the call booth and the cream puff stand and has been an active member of the Racine County 4-H Ambassadors which assists in fair activities such as the livestock auctions, pie auctions, and handing out ribbons at special events.
i Rice, daughter of Jeff and Phyllis Rice of Burlington, is a 2004 graduate of Burlington High School and is currently attending the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. She has been involved with the National Student Nurses' Association and the Burlington Back 40 4-H Club for the past 12 years. She held many offices along with chairing and co-chairing and participating in more than 10 committees and was a 4-H ambassador for your years and is currently a 4-H ambassador assistant. Some of the community activities that Rice participated in include highway clean ups, activities for Love Inc., Kiwanis Pancake Breakfast and bell ringing for the Salvation Army. Through 4-H, Rice spent many years at the Racine County Fair having reigned as a 4-H Ambassador, the Farm Bureau Ambassador 2003 and one of the Outstanding 4-H Teens for 2004.
i Krupkowski, daughter of Frank and Kathy Krupkowski of Kansasville, is a 2003 graduate of Union Grove Union High School and is currently attending Ravencrest Chalet. During high school she was involved in band, chorus and 4-H at the Racine County Fair. Krupkowski attended two semesters at Ravencrest Chalet in 2005 and received a certificate of completion. She helped plan the Super Saturday Festival in Union Grove in 2004 and 2005 and enjoys spending time at and helping with activities with the Kansasville Fire Department. Krupkowski joined 4-H Cloverbuds in grade school and has been a member up to 2004 when she graduated from 4-H.
i Callewaert, daughter of Joe and Linda Callewaert of Franksville, is a graduate of Union Grove High School. Callewaert is a preschool Sunday School teacher, member of 4-H, Creature Comforts and a bowling team. She has been a member of the Raymond 4-H for two years and also a 4-H ambassador for the past three years.
i Knutson, daughter of Van and Karen Knutson of Sturtevant, is a 2003 graduate of Walden III High School. While a high school student she was on Student Government and helped organize dances and drives to benefit charities, played fast pitch softball and tennis for Case High School and volunteered at different community events throughout the city with the 4-H Club. She is a junior at Illinois Institute of Art at Chicago. Knutson is involved in a volunteer club at her school that organizes food drives, clothing drives and other activities to get students involved in the community and has participated in Art Lovers. In the past she was a member of Racine Youth Players and plans on volunteering at 4-H activities. Last summer ended her 10-year 4-H career as a youth member. She has been able to volunteer at many fair cleanup events, act as a runner at auctions as a 4-H Ambassador, and announce events at the Grandstand in 2003. Knutson was an Outstanding 4-H Teen of Racine County.
