RACINE - Police arrested a teen allegedly caught burglarizing Wadewitz Elementary School late Wednesday night, during the third such incident there in recent weeks.
Remon Tyson, 17, of 2627 Jacato Drive, was arrested on charges of burglary and obstructing, according to Racine police reports.
Officers were called to the school at 2700 Yout St. at 9:40 p.m. for a burglary alarm sounding. When they arrived they spoke with a school custodian, who told them he had seen one suspect entering the school through an open window.
The custodian said he heard the burglar alarm and began to check the school. He apparently found one suspect crawling into a propped open window and yelled at him. Reports said the suspect then crawled out of the window and fled.
Police said the custodian chased after the suspect, but did not catch him.
Officers arrived a few minutes later and the custodian took them to the open window. When they got to that part of the building, they found Tyson leaning on the open window, reports said.
Tyson was arrested and taken to the Racine County Jail.
Police said a stolen camcorder was recovered. The initial suspect in the burglary was not located.
According to police reports, this is the third time Wadewitz has been broken into in recent weeks.
Officers were called to the school on Oct. 23 after a teacher discovered a projector, desktop computer and laptop cord had been taken from her classroom.
Reports said a small window to the room was broken out to gain entry. Police said the burglary occurred sometime between Oct. 22 at 2 p.m. and Oct. 23 at 6 a.m.
In the report regarding the Oct. 23 break-in, police noted that the same teacher's classroom had previously been burglarized with electronics taken.
