MOUNT PLEASANT - Two officers were injured in a roll-over crash Tuesday night at Highway 11 and Roosevelt Avenue.
Mount Pleasant officers John Studebaker and Paul Sweet both suffered minor injuries in the 11:38 p.m. crash and were taken to Wheaton Franciscan-All Saints hospital, 3801 Spring St. They were later released, said Capt. Brian Smith.
According to reports, Studebaker and Sweet were riding in the police van west on Highway 11. A southbound 2000 Buick Park Avenue driven by Laura Shelton, 77, of Racine failed to yield the right of way to the officers as she was attempting to make a left turn, Smith said.
Shelton's car collided with the police van, causing the van to roll over, police said.
Studebaker was trapped in the van and had to be extricated from the vehicle by South Shore rescue workers, according to Smith.
Shelton was not injured in the crash.
Both the car and van were severely damaged.
The State Patrol handled the investigation of the crash, Smith said. As of Wednesday morning, it was still being reviewed.
Police said Shelton was not impaired at the time of the collision.
