MILWAUKEE - A one-day substitute teacher training program is being offered from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. May 19 at Alverno College, 3401 S. 39th St.

A bachelor's degree in any area is needed to participate. The seminar will introduce the field of substitute teaching by covering the general expectations of a substitute teacher, pertinent information on health issues, successful discipline techniques, hints for working with students who have special needs, along with many ideas, tips and recommendations to acquaint attendees to this career.

This program will fulfill the Department of Public Instruction's requirement of training for people with a bachelor's degree (but not a teaching degree) and will qualify participants for a three-year substitute teacher permit.

Registration deadline is May 13. For more information, or to register to attend, contact Sandy Mayernick at (262) 968-4422, Sherry Petersen at (262) 968-4302, or visit the Web at
