RACINE - Representatives from Horlick, Case, The Prairie School, St. Catherine's, and various home schools competed in a Business Challenge held at SC Johnson's JMBA Center. The 21 teams were each supported by a local volunteer business consultant. Junior Achievement holds this event annually. Each student team acts as a management team of their own business. They spend the day making a series of business decisions to determine how they would price, market, manufacture, make capital expenditures and invest in R and D for their product.
At the end of the day the first- and second-place industry winners are awarded Scholarships, a Savings Bond and a trip to the state championship in Sheboygan. Third-, fourth- and fifth-place teams all receive Savings Bonds. This year The Prairie School students won first, Alex Meyer and Hasan Bader; second place, Steven Lowe and Maximilian Bissegger; and fourth place, Sagar Manda and Anthony Trecroci. St. Catherine's High School students Alexandra Wick and Leslie Stauss won third place; and Case High School students Samantha Marie Felix and Brittanie Mare LeViseur won fifth place.
Winners of a marketing competition were also awarded during the challenge. Lesie Stauss and Alexandra Wick from St. Catherine's High School won first place. With Michael Bugalski and Robert Hameister of St. Catherine's High School winning second place. Both teams were awarded gift certificates from local merchants.
The Business Challenge, scholarships, and Savings Bonds were made possible by sponsorships from SC Johnson, CBR Foundation, We Energies, Johnson Bank, CNH and Racine Rotary Founders Club.
