WAGNER RECEIVES ACADEMIC MERIT AWARD
MADISON - Jonathan R. Wagner, a senior at the University of Wisconsin-Madison majoring in biochemistry, has received the Albert J. and Adelaide E. Riker Academic Merit Award from the College of Agricultural and Life Sciences.
DIEM RECEIVES SCHOLARSHIP
MADISON - University of Wisconsin-Madison graduate Bridget Diem, daughter of Patrick and Mary Jo Diem of Racine, received the Paul Family Undergraduate Scholarship in Geology and Geophysics.
Diem has accepted a position at the University of Wyoming geology graduate school in Laramie, Wyo. She is a St. Catherine's High School graduate.
PHILLIPS RECEIVES COMMUNITY SCHOLARSHIP
PLATTEVILLE - Michael Phillips received a University of Wisconsin-Platteville Community Scholarship for Racine Lutheran High School through the UWP Foundation. The UW-Platteville Community Scholarship Program is designed to focus community support to the high school of a donor's choice. Phillips will use this scholarship toward attending UW-Platteville in the fall.
Phillips will be a freshman at UW-Platteville in the fall majoring in criminal justice. He graduated from Racine Lutheran High School in 2009 and is the son of Scott and Kristine Phillips of Racine.
The goal of the UW-Platteville Community Scholarship Program is to provide assistance to graduating high school seniors who will attend UW-Platteville. Any graduating high school senior in a participating community accepted into UW-Platteville is eligible to receive this scholarship.

STUDENTS PARTICIPATE IN COOPERATIVE EDUCATION PROGRAM
MENOMONIE - Christopher J. Fisher of Waterford and Dustin L. Smith of Wind Lake are currently employed through the Cooperative Education Program at the University of Wisconsin-Stout.
Approximately 800 students participate annually in the university's Cooperative Education Program that integrates college studies with work experience in industry, business, government or public service.
Students who participate in the program develop employment contacts, interpersonal skills and career goals in addition to experiencing an active and applied focus on learning in their professional field. As participants in the co-op program, students leave campus for a period of up to one year to work nationally or internationally. The success of the program is based on a framework of collaborative partnerships between employers, students and the university.
Fisher is employed by Innovative Construction Concepts Inc. in Oconomowoc as an on-site supervisor. Smith is holding a packaging co-op position at Mine Safety Appliances Co. in Cranberry Township, Pa.
IRELAND RECEIVES NONRESIDENT SCHOLARSHIP
LINCOLN, Neb. - Melissa Ann Ireland was among 468 students who have been awarded nonresident scholarships to attend the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in 2009.
The nonresident scholarship program was created in 1995 to identify and reward the most talented students from states other than Nebraska who choose to attend the University of Nebraska. The scholarships are awarded based on transfer grade-point averages for transfer students, or on academic accomplishments in high school and admission test scores for 2009 high school graduates.
Ireland received the Midwest Student Exchange Program Scholarship for exhibiting superior academic performance at a previously attended postsecondary institution. A student with a scholarship from the program pays 150 percent of the institution's regular resident tuition, $8,324, for taking 30 credit hours in 2009-10.
