DISTRICT HOSTING TITLE I PARENT MATH NIGHT TUESDAY

RACINE - The Racine Unified School District's Title I Program will hold its Parent Night at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 3, at Johnson Elementary School, 2420 Kentucky St.

The program will feature presenter Laura Maier, Unified's elementary math coordinator. The presentation will be an opportunity for parents and their children to work on math strategies using manipulatives (dominoes) and literature. There will also be a chance to ask any specific grade-level questions about helping elementary children at home with math.

The district's Title I Program believes all parents can contribute to their children's success by helping at home. The sessions are offered to parents who seek ideas on ways to help children achieve high standards. The next parent night will be on Dec. 8.

OPEN HOUSE TUESDAY AT CATHOLIC CENTRAL HIGH SCHOOL

BURLINGTON - An open house will be held from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. tonight at Catholic Central High School, 148 McHenry St.

Prospective students and the public are invited to the school's annual Open house. Open house activities include campus tours, choir, band and fine arts displays and presentations. Administration, faculty, coaches and student ambassadors and parents will welcome visitors.

ST. CATHERINE'S TO HOLD INFORMATION SESSION WEDNESDAY

RACINE - An information session on the status and plans for the new sixth- through 12th-grade academic option for today's students will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 4, in the John Foster Auditorium at St. Catherine's High School, 1200 Park Ave.

ST. LUCY'S ANNUAL SCHOOL/CHURCH SALE FRIDAY, SATURDAY

RACINE - The school/church annual rummage, craft and bake sale will be held from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday, Nov. 6, and from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 7, in the gym at St. Lucy's School, 3035 Drexel Ave.

The $5 bag sale starts at noon on Saturday.

PRAIRIE SCHOOL SETS ENTRANCE EXAM SATURDAY

WIND POINT - An entrance exam for students currently in grades seven through 10 will begin at 8:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 7, at The Prairie School, 4050 Lighthouse Drive.

In order to apply for the 2010-11 school year, students in these grades are required to take the exam. Students who score the highest on this exam may be invited back to sit for the Willie Hilpert Memorial Scholarship exam.

Advance registration for the entrance exam is required. The deadline to register is Thursday. Contact the admissions office at (262) 260-4393 or e-mail admissions@prairieschool.com to register or for additional information.

RACINE LUTHERAN HIGH SCHOOL HOSTS PORK CHOP DINNER

RACINE - A Pork Chop dinner will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Nov. 14 at Racine Lutheran High School, 251 Luedtke Ave.

The menu includes down-home, rib-tickling pork chops and all the fixings. Music and activities for children will fill the gym, and guests will have opportunities to win gift baskets and other door prizes.

Tickets are $10 for adults, $2.50 for kids' mac 'n cheese dinners. Door prizes include a Weber gas grill, a cooler of beef and $100 cash. Proceeds benefit the school. Reserve tickets by calling Racine Lutheran High at (262) 637-6538.

'LET THERE BE NIGHT' AT RACINE UNIFIED PLANETARIUM

RACINE - The Racine Unified School District will hold its first public planetarium program, "Let There be Night," at 7 p.m. Nov. 12 and 17. This particular program has been shown in planetariums nationwide to celebrate 2009 as the International Year of Astronomy and will be held in the newly remodeled planetarium at Gifford Elementary School, 8332 Northwestern Ave.

This family show takes the viewers back in time to explore the evening sky with Galileo and then fast-forwards to the future to contrast with the current evening sky. Currently, nature's balance between day and night is at risk as errant and excessive outdoor lighting challenges our nightscape. While astronomers have initially raised concerns knowing now the value of the night extends well beyond the visual sight. "Let There be Night" will also examine the associated problems and offer reasonable solutions. The program will conclude with a view of Racine's current night sky and free star maps will be available.

Reservations are necessary and may be made by calling (262) 631-7093. Due to limited seating, reservations cannot be accepted for organizations or groups. At the school, attendees should park in the east parking lot and enter through the southeast doors.

HORLICK CHOIR DEPARTMENT PRESENTS HIGH RENAISSANCE FEAST

RACINE - The Horlick High School Choir Department will present its 33rd Annual High Renaissance Feast on Dec. 12, 13, 18 and 19 at the Masonic Center, 1012 Main St.

HORLICK HOSTS CHEERLEADING CLINIC

RACINE - Horlick High School Cheerleaders will host their 10th Annual Cheer clinic on Dec. 12. There will be two sessions available: 9 a.m.-noon for grades K-4 grade; and 1-4 p.m. for grades 5-8. The cost is $25 per participant.

All participants will learn the basic fundamentals of cheerleading. Horlick Varsity cheerleaders will teach a variety of cheers, different jumps, and a short dance. In addition, the clinic will include team-building activities with numerous performances of different cheerleading stunts by the Horlick High School Cheerleaders. All participants will receive a Cheer clinic T-shirt along with a set of finger poms. Snacks will be provided. All participants will also be invited to perform at halftime of a Varsity Boys Basketball game in January.
