CITY OF BURLINGTON

Men facing deportation after traffic arrest

Two men were being held for federal immigration agents after Burlington city police made a traffic stop for speeding and reckless driving at 7:06 p.m. July 13 near the intersection of McHenry and St. Mary's streets. Police initially arrested Pedro Garcia, 34, of Burlington, on charges of operating a vehicle while intoxicated-third offense and for speeding. Passenger Miguel Huerta, 22, of Burlington, was cited for obstruction, possession of a fake ID and open intoxicants in a vehicle. The Immigration and Naturalization Service was contacted and issued orders of detention for deportation.

RACINE

Man assaulted at party

A 23-year-old man suffered a fractured cheek and cuts to his face in an assault early Sunday morning, according to Racine police.

Reports said the man was at a party at an apartment in the 800 block of Wisconsin Avenue when one of the suspects in the attack asked him for a cigarette. The man told officers he had already given the suspect a cigarette earlier in the evening and refused the second request.

Police said at that point, the suspect began to punch the victim in the face. Two other suspects assisted by holding the victim during the attack.

The man was taken by his girlfriend, who was also at the party, to Wheaton Franciscan-All Saints Hospital, 3801 Spring St. Police were called to the hospital by medical personnel.

Reports said the man spoke with police, but said he did not want a report filed and would not pursue charges.

RACINE

Babies left at daycare

Two little girls were taken into protective custody by the county Human Service Department, and police are searching for their parents after the girls were not picked up from day care July 10.

Racine police were called to Head Start, 2400 Rapids Drive, after the parents of the girls, ages 1-year and 10-months, didn't arrive at the scheduled time to get them, and day care employees were unable to contact the parents.

Reports said the girls were dropped off at the facility at 2 p.m. July 10 and were supposed to be picked up at 10:30 p.m. An employee told officers she called the mother to remind her of the pick up time, because they had been late previously.

Police attempted to make contact with the mother at her residence on the morning of July 11. Officers said although a TV could be heard on inside the apartment, no one answered the door.

RACINE

Two charged after slashing investigation

Kenda K. Kremzar-Escobar, 49, 2610 Mount Pleasant St., Racine, was charged with recklessly endangering safety after police investigated a slashing incident at 9:30 a.m. July 12.

Police responded to the intersection of Mount Pleasant and William streets to check on a woman who was walking down the street with blood on her legs.

Police said the suspect, later identified as Kremzar-Escobar, appeared to be intoxicated and was allegedly not listening to officers.

Eventually she said she had been assaulted by her boyfriend.

A short time later police found Joe L. Hayes, 53, 2124 Virginia St., riding a bike in the area with paper towel wrapped around his wrist. A 2-inch laceration was found on his wrist, police said.

After putting pieces together, police eventually figured that Hayes got caught in the middle of an assault between Kremzar-Escobar and her boyfriend, who left the scene before police arrived.

Kremzar-Escoba was also charged with possession of drug paraphernalia and disorderly conduct. Hayes was charged with disorderly conducts and obstruction. Racine paramedics took him to Wheaton Franciscan-All saints hospital, 3801 Spring St., for stitches.

Two arrested after report of brawls

Police responded twice in less than a half hour around the midnight hour of July 12 to a report of a fight in the street involving close to 100 people at Blake and Hamilton streets.

After the second response, at 12:26 a.m., police arrested Arlene Jackson, 48, 1610 Hamilton St., on charges of battery and disorderly conduct while armed, and Ashena L. Barr, 18, 933 N. Memorial Drive, on charges of battery and obstruction.

Reports indicate Jackson allegedly struck Barr in the wrist with a bat and Barr allegedly struck Jackson in the head with her fist.

Jackson suffered a laceration above her eye that required stitches. Barr's injuries did not require immediate treatment, police reports indicate.

RAYMOND

Collector pistol missing

A .45 caliber collector's handgun was reported stolen to Racine County sheriff's deputies on July 13.

Reports said the owner had kept the weapon in a gun case in a kitchen cabinet at her residence in the 4700 block of 68th Street. The owner told deputies that she last saw the gun about one month ago, but when she was moving some items around recently, it was gone.

Numerous charges follow domestic incident

Police responding at 5:30 a.m. July 11 to a 911 call in the 1100 block of Hayes Avenue came upon a domestic disturbance.

After they entered the residence and separated the parties, police found enough evidence to arrest Roderick C. Williams, 39, 1124 Hayes, on pending charges of possession of cocaine, bail jumping, possession of morphine, domestic battery and a weapons violation. The 26-year-old woman involved in the incident was not seriously injured.

Tools, equipment taken in burglary

Equipment collectively valued at $1,580 was reported stolen July 11 from a garage in the 1600 block of Quincy Avenue. Among the missing items are wrenches, a speaker, an amplifier, car jacks, an air compressor and a rototiller.

The break-in apparently occurred some time between 2:30 a.m. and 9 a.m. on July 11. A lock was pried off a service door to gain entry, reports indicate.

Cars keyed at dealership

Two vehicles incurred approximately $700 in damage each after they were keyed some time over the night/early morning of July 11-12 at Roger's Auto Sales, 233 N. Main St. The damaged vehicles were a 1994 BMW and a 1999 Audi. The dealership proprietor told police the cars were completely keyed all the way around.

Tree catches fire

City fire crews were dispatched at 1:53 p.m. July 13 to a report of a utility transformer that had blown setting a tree on fire near 308 Church St. We Energies crews were also called to the scene.

Rock thrown through picture window

A family living in the 400 block of Edward Street was awakened at 12:20 a.m. July 12 when an unknown perpetrator through a rock through a double-pane picture window. Damage is estimated at $2,000. Police reports indicate no known motive for the vandalism.

VILLAGE OF WATERFORD

Library theft warrants issued

Village police on July 12 issued court summons for theft charges to several area residents for not returning library materials to the Waterford Public Library, 101 N. River St.

The cited people and the total amount of restitution and fines they face are: Timothy Jensen, 52, 8507 Bonnie Lane, Town of Waterford, $374 for materials due Dec. 26; Tiffany Loker. 17, 510 W. Main St., Waterford. $460 for 13 books due in March; Christopher Forker, 34, 115 S. 2nd St., $464 for nine items; Gary W. Peppler, 46, 6015 Town Line Road, rural Waterford, $348 for items due in January; and Susan M. Cassel, 50, 11400 W. 7 Mile Road, Raymond, $323 for items due on Dec. 29.

MOUNT PLEASANT

Car crashes into parked vehicles

A 24-year-old Mount Pleasant woman was cited for operating a vehicle while intoxicated, operating a vehicle without a valid license and inattentive driving after a 1999 Buick LeSabre struck three vehicles just after 3 a.m. July 6 at a church parking lot at Highway 31 and 16th Street.

There were no injuries in the crash.

Arrested was Bobbiesue Mutter, 24, 2105 Frankie Place. According to village police reports, Mutter allegedly said something ran in front of the vehicle just before the crash.
