The UW-Parkside men's soccer team kicked into high gear in the second half Saturday afternoon, breaking a 1-1 tie with Viterbo and scoring seven unanswered goals en route to an 8-1 victory over the V- Hawks in a nonconference match at the Wood Road Soccer Field on the Parkside campus in Somers.

Senior All-American forward Bojan Jovicic scored the Rangers' only goal in the first half on a penalty kick. Gregg Ryder scored Viterbo's goal, also on a penalty kick. The V-Hawks were playing two men short because of red cards.

"Sometimes when you go up two men, you get relaxed thinking it is going to be easy," Parkside coach Rick Kilps said. "We got complacent and that is not a good thing to be."

Andrew Gamarra scored two quick goals to open the second half and Jovicic followed with his second goal of the game, putting Parkside up 4-1. Armin Mehic and Jon Bebeau came off the bench and scored two goals each to wrap up the scoring for the Rangers (3-0).

Parkside, which hosts the University of Mary at noon Monday, had 16 shots on goal. Viterbo had two shots on goal, both in the first half.
