Junior Rachel Swoboda led the way with 12 kills and a .417 attack percentage in leading top-seeded Carthage College to a 25-13, 25-19, 25-21 victory over Elmhurst College Friday in the semifinals of the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin Tournament at the Tarble Arena on the Carthage campus in Kenosha.
The Lady Reds (30-5), ranked eighth in the Nov. 3 American Volleyball Coaches Association NCAA Division III poll, will play No. 28 North Central (34-3) in today's 2 p.m. championship match. The winner receives the CCIW's automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Women's Volleyball Championship.
North Central beat Millikin (19-20)
25-23, 20-25, 26-24, 25-21.
Sophomore Michelle Madeja had 10 kills and a .272 attack percentage and 15 digs and setter Drewann Pancratz had 28 assists.
PARKSIDE: Emily Levy had a match-best 17 kills to lead Rockhurst University to a 25-21, 25-18, 25-21 Great Lakes Valley Conference victory over UW-Parkside in the DeSimone Gymnasium on the Parkside campus in Somers.
Levy hit .600 (17 kills, 2 errors, 25 total attacks) in leading Rockhurst (20-12, 9-4 GLVC), which hit .278 as a team.
Parkside (21-11, 5-8 GLVC) hit .163 as a team and was led by Tami Gleason with 12 kills. Gleason hit .360 (12-3-25). Courtney Stack had 15 assists and Cassie Wilkens had 14 digs for the Rangers, who finish regular-season play today at home against Drury (3 p.m.).
Men's golf
UW-PARKSIDE: Junior Andy Hansen was chosen the Great Lakes Valley Conference Golfer of the month for October.
Hansen tied for fourth in the Illinois-Springfield Invitational and placed third at the Wayne State Motor City Invitational. For the month, Hansen completed five rounds and averaged 72.8.
