Bong State Recreation Area
The Richard Bong State Recreation Area in Brighton offers the following naturalist programs. A vehicle entrance fee ($7 daily; $25 annual state residents) is required to attend all programs. Programs start promptly, so please be on time. For more information on any programs, please call (262) 878-5600.
Saturday: Fall Explorer Hike, 10 a.m. to noon. Join the naturalist to hike the beautiful 3.8-mile Blue Trail. Discover fall's unfolding at the park. Bring water. Meet at the Visitor Center.
Saturday, Sept. 27: Orienteering 101, 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Learn the basics of compass and map reading skills. Put your new knowledge to the test in a fun outdoor game. All equipment supplied. Most suitable for ages 8 and older. Meet at the Visitor Center.
Saturday, Sept. 27: Crane Watch, 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. Join Tom Lajiness to witness the wonderful spectacle of Sandhill Cranes coming into the marsh to roost. Delight in the sights and sounds of this amazing evening ritual. Meet at the Observation Platform.
Sunday, Sept. 28: Wolf Lake Trail Run/Walk, 10 a.m. Take a run/hike around beautiful Wolf Lake (3.8 miles). Funds raised for this event are earmarked for educational exhibits and programming and will benefit the park and its visitors.
The event begins and ends at the beach at the Richard Bong State Recreation Area. Registration and packet pickup starts at 8:30 a.m. and ends at 9:30 a.m. The run begins at 10 a.m., with hikers leaving immediately after. Pre-registration is $18; race day registration is $20. A family rate of $50 for parents and their dependent children is available with pre-registration only.

Friends of NRA banquet
The 3rd Annual Racine/Kenosha AREA Friends of NRA banquet will be held Friday, Oct. 3 at Roma Lodge, 7130 Spring St. (Hwy. C) in Mount Pleasant. The event features a dinner, live and silent auctions, raffles, games and limited edition items. The banquet begins at 5 p.m., with the dinner to follow at 7 p.m. Tickets are $50 for individuals. If you purchase tickets for a full table of eight, you'll receive $160 in raffle tickets free. Book by Sept. 21 to early bird raffle specials.

Ruffed Grouse Society shoot
The Thundering Wings Chapter of the Ruffed Grouse Society will hold its second annual central Wisconsin RGS Grouse Tune-up Sporting Clays Shoot Sunday, Sept. 21 at Pine Ridge of Wautoma, N3387 State Road 73, Wautoma. Registration for the 50-target shoot is $50 in advance or $55 at the door and includes lunch and awards in several categories.
