Bong State Recreation Area
The Richard Bong State Recreation Area in Brighton offers the following naturalist programs. A vehicle entrance fee ($7 daily; $25 annual state residents) is required to attend all programs. Programs start promptly, so please be on time. For more information on any programs, please call (262) 878-5600.
Saturday, July 18: Insect Safari, 8 a.m. 9 a.m. Capture, identify and release some of the park's insects. Learn how fascinating insects can be. Meet at the Visitor Center.
Saturday, July 18: Horsing Around, 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. Meet and visit with horses and riders from Diettrich Stables to learn about horse care, history and riding tips. Meet at Shelter No. 2 at the Beach.
Saturday, July 25: How to Stay Found, 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. Learn to use a compass and read a map. Outside, you will play a game to test your newly-found skills. Recommended for ages eight and up. Meet at the Visitor Center.
Saturday, July 25: Creatures of the Night, 8 p.m. to 9 p.m. Join us for this night hike to listen and look for what really does go bump in the night. Meet at the Amphitheater.
Saturday, July 25: ATV and OHM Skills Rodeo and Cookout, 11 a.m. All ATV and off-highway motorcycles are invited to join the ATV/OHM Riders Club. Cookout food will go on sale at 11 a.m. and the skills rodeo will begin at 1 p.m. Riders can participate in a fun skills course to test their riding skills for $5 per run. Money raised will help support the ATV and OHM riding and trail maintenance at the park. Meet at the old ATV parking lot near Parking Lot E. RIB 3D Bowhunter League
Racine Instinctive Bowmen's 3D McKenzie Shoot league begins July 22 and runs through Sept. 9. Shooters will have a choice of two ranges with 15 3D targets per range at reasonable hunting distances. Two arrows per target. The cost is $6 per range. Shooting will be from 7:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. and 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Wednesdays. Children may shoot provided they are of legal hunting age and accompanied by an adult. Field points only, no broadheads. No crossbows allowed.
