Local colleges: Lady Reds remain unbeaten in soccer

Jackie Peterson and Ashleigh Johnson scored in the first half and Michelle Jorwic added a second-half goal Thursday in Carthage College's 3-0 nonconference soccer victory over the Coast Guard Academy at New London, Conn.

The Lady Reds (5-0) outshot Coast Guard 13-5.

Peterson opened the scoring with a goal 4:15 into the match. It was her team-leading seventh goal of the season. Johnson s cored an unassisted goal in the 39th minute and Jorwic scored at 59:52 off an assist by freshman Maria Korosis.

Lindsey Bollman and Christie Johnson each made one save in combining on the shutout.

Coast Guard is 0-4.

Women's tennis

CARTHAGE: The Lady Reds beat North Central 8-1 Wednesday in a College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin match at Naperville, Ill. Beth Kaufman beat Kelly Hatch 6-0, 6-1 at No. 1 singles. Carthage (4-2, 4-1 CCIW) won all the singles except No. 5. The loss was the first of the season for North Central (4-1, 1-1 CCIW).
