Three UW-Parkside wrestlers brought home championships from the 22-team Concordia University Open Saturday at Concordia University in Mequon.
Senior Kyle Becker went 6-0 and beat Ben Yeoul of North Central 2-1 in the championship at 165 pounds to improve to 10-2 this season.
At 174 pounds, junior Corey VanGroll went 5-0 and beat Greg Horn of Elmhurst 3-0 in the championship match. VanGroll is 8-1 this season.
Junior Craig Becker, who is redshirting this season and competed unattached, went 5-0 and beat Jesse Milks of UW-Platteville 2-0 in the 157-pound championship match.
The Rangers had four other place-winners.
At 125 pounds, freshman Cody Zimmerman went 5-2 and pinned Jurbon Nassar of Muskegon Community College in 1:25 to place fifth.
At 184 pounds, sophomore Luke Haag went 3-2 and lost 6-4 to David Casper of UW-Whitewater in the third-place match.
At 174 pounds, Ryan Woods went 5- 2 and placed fifth, beating Greg Schroeder of North Central 8-3 in the fifth-place match.
Freshman Malcolm Briggs, who also is redshirting this season and wrestled unattached, went 6-1 and placed third at 197 pounds. Briggs beat Mike Jackowski of UW-Platteville 5-4 in the third-place match.
"We took 15 wrestlers to the meet, 10 of them attached," Parkside coach Jim Koch said. "Of the 10 attached, six of them placed, so that's a pretty good day."
Next up for the Rangers is a dual meet at UW-Whitewater Nov. 28.
Swimming
CARTHAGE: Michelle Pelka won four events for the Lady Reds as they swept a nonconference triangular meet against Kalamazoo College and Hope at Kalamazoo, Mich., Friday and Saturday.
Pelka won the 100-meter butterfly, 200 butterfly, 200 individual medley and 400 individual medley and Amanda Croix won the 50 freestyle, 100 freestyle and 200 freestyle for the Carthage women.
For the men, Bryan Pelka and Stephen Schrank won three events each as the Red Men swept the triangular.
Pelka won the 200 butterfly, 500 freestyle and 1,650 freestyle and Schrank won the 100 breaststroke, 100 breaststroke and 200 individual medley.
Team scores were not available.
