It may have been one of the few places in the Midwest where it wasn't raining Sunday.

But for the UW-Parkside baseball team, playing the University of Indianapolis at Greyhound Park in Indianapolis, Ind., turned out to be a nightmare just the same.

The Greyhounds swept the Rangers Sunday, winning 13-9 and 22-9 in a Great Lakes Valley Conference doubleheader.

Adding insult to injury for Parkside, which has lost 12 straight games, was the fact the Rangers outhit the Greyhounds (34-16, 21-7 GLVC) 14-7 in the first game.

First baseman John Hasser went 4-for-4 and second baseman James Dawson went 3-for-4, but the Rangers (4-41, 3-25 GLVC) committed five errors that led to six unearned runs.

Designated hitter Andy Heller went 2-for-4, including a three-run home run in the third that gave Parkside a

6-0 lead. But the bottom fell out in the fourth inning when Indianapolis scored seven runs on four hits, a walk, a hit batsman and two errors.

In the second game, the Greyhounds poured it on with a six-run second inning, four-run third and a seven-run eighth. Shortstop Robert Bellish went 3-for-5, Heller went 3-for-4 and left fielder Dave Watson and catcher Brad Lierman had two hits each, but the Rangers gave up 21 hits. Dawson homered for the Rangers, a solo shot leading off the seventh.

PARKSIDE: The Rangers' season is officially over. Parkside and Quincy were tied 1-1 in the third inning Saturday in the first game of a Great Lakes Valley doubleheader at Parkside, when rain forced the postponement of the games. Parkside (17-19, 9-11 GLVC) needed to move up to earn one of the eight spots in the GLVC Tournament, but Missouri S&T swept Rockhurst Sunday to pass the Ran-gers for the eighth spot in the tournament.
