The Carthage College men's soccer team will have to wait until Monday to find out if it will play on this season.
The Red Men, who won the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin title for the first time in school history, lost to Wheaton (Ill.) 2-1 Wednesday in the semifinals of the CCIW Tournament at Kenosha and will not be guaranteed a berth in the NCAA Division III playoffs.
Wheaton (12-6-1), the fourth seed in the tournament, led 1-0 at the half on an unassisted goal by Joel DeLass, then took a 2-0 lead at 47:44 of the match on a penalty kick goal by Strider Elass.
Chris Fidlow scored at 56:42, assisted by Greg Goldsberry, to get top-seeded Carthage (14-5-2) within 2-1, but the Red Men couldn't get another ball in the goal.
Andrew Conner made 11 saves in goal for Carthage, which will have to wait until Monday to find out of it will receive an at-large berth in the Division III tournament. The Red Men are ranked fourth in the NCAA Division III Central Region poll.
Wheaton will host Elmhurst Saturday in the CCIW tournament final, with the winner earning the conference's automatic bid into the NCAA tournament.
Women's volleyball
UW-PARKSIDE: Lewis had little trouble with the Rangers, winning 30-26, 30-24, 30-21 Tuesday in a Great Lakes Valley Conference match at Somers.
Jacqui Brandenburg had nine kills for Parkside (13-12, 6-11 GLVC) and Margot DePaepe and Horlick High School graduate Jennifer Johnson each had eight. Katie Krohn had 34 assists and Jackie Nehls had 21 digs.
Stephanie Sagat and Kim Richards both had 15 kills for Lewis (25-3, 15-2).
