Even if Lisa Gartelos' game-high 22 points were wiped away, Carthage still would've defeated Elmhurst Tuesday night at the Tarble Arena in Kenosha.
Gartelos, a senior center, was 9-of-12 from the field and the Lady Reds held the Bluejays to 26 percent shooting in a 70-44 College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin game. Gartelos scored her 22 points in just 20 minutes of playing time.
Carthage (16-7, 8-4 CCIW) built at 36-22 lead at half. The Lady Reds' strong defense carried over into the second half, holding Elmhurst to only another 22 points.
Gartelos got help on the offensive end from Heather Gilmore and Katie Klemke, who both added eight points.
Lyndsie Long led Elmhurst (13-10, 6-6 CCIW) with 12 points. Meghan Merklein added 10.
