On a warm afternoon, the Carthage College baseball team was downright hot.
The top-seeded Red Men opened play in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin Tournament at the Carthage Baseball Field in Kenosha Thursday with a 12-5 victory over No. 4 seed Augustana. Left fielder Drew Roberts went
2-for-3 with a homer and four RBIs and also scored three runs to lead Carthage
(30-6).
In the tournament's opening game, Illinois Wesleyan (24-14) defeated Wheaton (21-18) 10-6.
Wheaton plays Augustana in a 10 a.m. loser's bracket game today. Carthage plays Illinois Wesleyan in a 1 p.m. winner's bracket game. In today's third and final game, the Wheaton-Augustana winner will play the Carthage-Illinois Wesleyan loser at 4 p.m.
Carthage pitcher Jordan Jaehne-Llanas took a no-hitter into the sixth inning before Joe Moran singled sharply to left. Jaehne-Llanas allowed one earned run in seven innings, striking out seven and walking one.
Lequia went 3-for-5 with an RBI and two runs. Mike Hughes went 2-for-4 and scored three runs and Hodges went 2-for-4 with three RBIs.
