SOMERS - Nick Szczech of Cudahy made it two straight Saturday.
Szczech, a former standout track and cross country runner at Milwaukee Thomas More High School, won the fourth annual Alex DeVinny Memorial 4K Run/Walk held Saturday on the UW-Parkside National Cross Country Course.
The 20-year-old Szczech covered the 4K course in 12:37.6, an improvement of 13.6 seconds over last year's winning time.
Cory Harris, 20, of Burlington was second in 13:54.2 and Ben Schmitt, 19, of Burlington was third in 14:05.8. The top Racine finisher was Andy Kaestner, 44, who was 12th in 15:27.9 and first in his age group (male 40-49).
Brittney Feiror, 14, of Kenosha was the first female finisher. Feiror finished in 16:55.8 and was 21st overall. The annual run was organized to honor the memory of Alex DeVinny, a former Racine athlete who died in 2006 at the age of 20 after a long battle with anorexia nervosa. Money raised from the run helps support public education about eating disorders and supports research for those affected and their families.
