The Carthage College baseball team had its quest to advance to the NCAA Division III Baseball Championship put on hold Sunday.

The Red Men, ranked No. 7 by D3baseball.com, were expected to play for the Central Regional championship Sunday at Moline, Ill.

However, after UW-Whitewater won both of its games Sunday, the teams put off playing for the championship until today, starting at 11 a.m.

NCAA regulations discourage teams from playing three games in one day.

A Carthage victory would send the Red Men to the NCAA Division III Baseball Championship beginning Thursday at Fox Cities Stadium in Grand Chute. A loss would force a deciding game between Whitewater and Carthage at 2 p.m.

today.

Whitewater (29-18) kept its title hopes alive by defeating Wartburg College 8-3 and No. 12 Millsaps College 10-4.

The Warhawks are coached by John Vodenlich, who attended Case High School.

Carthage (35-6), which has not lost in the tournament, moved into the title game with a 12-5 victory over Millsaps Saturday night.

In that game, the Red Men scored eight runs in the eighth inning to pull away.

Former Park High School standout John Lequia went 1-for-4 in the game. He also drew a walk.
