The Carthage College baseball team wrapped up its College Conference of

Illinois and Wisconsin schedule Sunday afternoon with a 10-5 victory over Elmhurst at Elmhurst, Ill.

The Red Men (29-5, 18-1 CCIW), who won the outright CCIW championship, became just the second Carthage team to finish conference play with one loss. Carthage's 1971 team went 15-1 in league play.

Carthage took a 1-0 lead in the first inning on an RBI double by Josh Albers. The Red Men went on to a take a 5-1 lead in the fourth inning on a two-run homer by Will Hodges and back-to-back RBI grounders by Joe Ferro and Trevor Whatley

Mark Sobol, who hit three home runs in Saturday's doubleheader sweep of Elmhurst, hit a two-run homer in the fifth to make it 7-1. Whatley hit a two-run single in the fifth to extend the lead to 9-1.

Former Somers Shoreland Lutheran High School standout Tyler Eickmeyer went 3-for-4 and Sobol and Will Hodges each went 2-for-5 with two RBIs.

Trace Ruffie (4-1) worked the first five innings to earn the victory, allowing two runs on seven hits and no walks.

UW-PARKSIDE: The Rangers concluded their season Sunday by splitting a Great Lakes Valley Conference doubleheader against Lewis at Romeoville, Ill.

Parkside (6-43) lost the first game 10-4 before coming back to win the second 9-6. The Rangers, who also beat Lewis Saturday, won on back-to-back days for the first time this season.

As the designated home team - the doubleheader was moved to Lewis because of wet grounds at Parkside - the Rangers rallied for four runs in the bottom of the sixth inning of Game 2 to break a 4-4 tie.

Highlighting the rally was an RBI double by Robert Bellish and a two-run single by Nick Cozzi.

In Sunday's first game, Parkside was charged with five errors. Dave Watson had three hits, including a solo homer in the seventh.
