LOCAL COLLEGES: Lady Reds settle for split in softball

The Carthage College softball team split a pair of games with Wisconsin teams Thursday at the Rebel Spring Games in Kissimmee, Fla. The Lady Reds (5-3) beat UW-Stout 3-1 in their second game of the day, following a eight-inning, 1-0 loss to St. Norbert.

UW-PARKSIDE: The Rangers were shut out by the same score in both of their games Thursday. They lost 3-0 to Wayne State (Neb.) and 3-0 to New Haven.

Women's tennis

CARTHAGE: The Lady Reds (9-6) concluded their spring trip to Florida with an 8-1 victory over Grinnell (3-1) at Orlando. Carthage swept all six singles matches, all but two in straight sets. Hollis McPeek (No. 4 singles) and Katie Hornick (No. 5) rallied from first-set losses to win their matches.

Men's tennis

CARTHAGE: The Red Men (9-3) were swept 9-0 by Grinnell (7-5) in their final match of their spring trip to Orlando, Fla.
