Threes were the number of the day for the Carthage College women's track & field team
Saturday.
The Lady Reds won three
events and Carthage placed third at the University of Chicago Margaret Bradley Invitational at
Chicago.
Chicago won the nine-team event with 160 points. Carthage, which had a partial squad at the meet, scored 101 points to place third.
Stephanie Moy won the pole vault with an NCAA provisional qualifying mark of 11-3 3/4, Morgan Wiechmann won the 3,000-meter run (19:38.91) and Shacuana Gaines won the triple jump (36-0 1/4).
Laura Pearson placed second in the 3,000 (10:39.83).
The Lady Reds are ranked seventh in the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association NCAA Division III indoor poll.
n Angie Adams led the way for the UW-Parkside women at the UW-Oshkosh Titan Invitational with a second-place finish in the mile run in a career-best 5:28.28. Teammate Jennie Kindt was third in 5:32.98, also a career best. Heidi Andersen was fourth in the 3,000 in 11:11.01, while Whitney Olson placed fifth in the 800 in 2:28.36.
Parkside placed fifth in the seven-team meet won by host UW-Oshkosh with 325 points. The Rangers scored 27 points in the three events in which they competed.
Men's track & field
PARKSIDE: Freshman Alex Mena placed fifth in the mile in a career-best 4:30.44 to lead the way for the Parkside men at the UW-Oshkosh Titan Invitational.
Teammates Rehan Mahmood (sixth in 4:32.77) and Bryan McLoone (seventh in 4:33.38) posted career bests in the mile run as well.
Freshman Jacob Buddell was fifth in the 3,000 (9:21.50) and Robert Meyers was sixth in the 3,000 in 9:26.23.
The Rangers were sixth in the seven-team meet won by host UW-Oshkosh with 312 points. Parkside scored 16 points, competing in two events.
Men's volleyball
CARTHAGE: The Red Men were swept in three games by Ball State in a nonconference match in the Tarble Athletic Center on the Carthage campus in Kenosha.
Tom O'Connell led Carthage (4-15) with eight kills, but had six errors for a .083 attack percentage. Tim Walker had six kills and no errors in eight total attacks for a .750 percentage.
Matt Srague led Ball State
(5-4) with nine kills.
Women's tennis
CARTHAGE: The Lady Reds won only one match Saturday in an 8-1 nonconference loss to Calvin College at the Huizenga Tennis & Track Center at Grand Rapids, Mich.
Jennifer Immen beat Michelle Busscher 6-4, 4-6, 10-8 at No. 5 singles.
Carthage is 0-2 in the indoor portion of their 2008-09 season.
