The Carthage College baseball team took it on the chin Friday, losing a pair of games at North Port, Fla.
The Red Men, ranked 25th in the D3baseball.com poll, lost to No. 16 UW-Whitewater 9-0 and to unranked Otterbein 6-1.
Whitewater pitchers Aaron Dott and Kale Olson combined on the four-hit shutout and the Warhawks had plenty of offense. They scored three runs in the fifth to break a scoreless tie, then added five runs in the bottom of the eighth. Park High School graduate John Lequia had one of the Carthage hits. Trace Ruffie (0-1) went the first seven innings for the Red Men.
In the loss to Otterbein, Shoreland Lutheran graduate Tyler Eickmeyer walked, moved to second on an infield out and scored on Chris D'Angelo's single in the fifth inning to get the Red Men (4-4) within a run at 2-1. But Otterbein scored two runs in the top of the sixth and two more in the eighth. Jord Jaehne-Llanas (1-1) took the loss for Carthage. D'Angelo had both of the hits for the Red Men.
