The Carthage College baseball team went deep Wednesday afternoon. Repeatedly.
The Red Men used four three-run homers to defeat North Park 13-8 in a CCIW game at the Holmgren Athletic Complex in Chicago.
Carthage (10-4, 4-0 CCIW) opened up a 13-2 lead midway through the fourth inning. Mike Hughes hit a three-run homer in the first and former Park High School standout John Lequia hit a three-run homer in the second.
Hughes hit another three-run homer in the seventh inning and Joe Ferro also hit a three-run homer.
Tyler Eickmeyer, a former Somers Shoreland Lutheran player, drove in Carthage's other run.
Carthage pitcher Mario Perez (2-0) earned the victory. He worked the first five innings and allowed four runs, three earned, one nine hits and a walk.
The game was originally scheduled as part of a doubleheader Tuesday at Carthage, but was postponed one day. It was then rescheduled as a single game when North Park was unable to obtain umpires for a noon start.
North Park is 9-9 and 0-3 in the CCIW.
