Evan Jones threw for six touchdowns and Carthage College dominated North Park University, winning 55-24 in a College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin game Saturday at Art Keller Field in Kenosha.

The Red Men (6-3, 3-3 CCIW) fell into an early hole as the Vikings took the opening kickoff and drove 60 yards on 13 plays. Sam Lialios caught a 9-yard touchdown pass from Shelby Wood to cap the drive.

Carthage had trouble on its first possession, punting after three plays. But after a defensive stop, the Red Men scored on their next eight possessions.

Jones got Carthage on the board with a 15-yard pass to Jeff Koeneman. Two plays later, North Park running back Bill Ziemba fumbled and the Red Men recovered at their 19-yard line. After Jones missed on two passes, he hit Rick Loisi for an 81-yard touchdown pass.

Jones threw for touchdowns of 19 yards, 26 yards and 23 yards during the second quarter.

"We started out a little slow today but we did what we needed to do and took care of business," Carthage coach Tim Rucks said. "We were able to do pretty much anything we wanted to do. North Park put more people in the box than we had blockers for, so that means throw the ball, and we did. If you give us the pass, you know what we're going to do."

Horlick graduate Tyler Funk capped the first half by hitting a school-record 52-yard field goal for a 38-14 lead.

"Tyler Funk wasn't at all sure if he could make that 52-yard field goal, but I shoved him on the field and told him he could do it," Rucks said.

Jones connected with Nick Merchut for a 43-yard touchdown reception early in the third quarter. Luke Musselman rushed in from 3-yards out on Carthage's next possession for a 52-14 lead with 11:54 left in the third.

"Our offense is really in synch at the moment, and any team we play is going to have a do a pretty good on defense to stop this offense," Rucks said.

Jones finished the day 23 for 35 for 467 yards. Koeneman caught eight passes for 136 yards. Loisi caught three passes for 118 yards and two touchdowns and Merchut caught three passes for 73 yards and two touchdowns. John Seigler rushed for 92 yards.
